Corporate work is draining because of the people
I don’t know if it’s just me, but corporate work is draining in a very specific way.
My actual workload is honestly quite manageable if I stay focused and productive. The part that drains me is mostly the people aspect.
Having to pretend to be interested in conversations I don’t care about. Having to act pleasant around bosses or stakeholders even when I don’t agree with them. Sitting in meetings where we go round and round because people just want to get a word in or sound smart.
At the end of the day, I don’t actually hate the work itself. In fact, I quite enjoy doing the actual work. But I hate the “performance” around work, the constant need to manage egos, read the room, phrase things carefully, and stay politically correct even when something is obviously pointless.
Does anyone else feel this way too? What can I do to make this better? I am a Zillennial and have many years of corporate labour ahead of me 😅
