Why do I keep getting so many spam calls?

I don't answer them or hang up, I just leave them be. On the occasion that I do answer them, it's complete silence from their side. I haven't been visiting any *interesting* websites or downloading illegal stuff, so why the sudden barrage of calls?

The numbers are also all different numbers.
