What the heck was falling from the sky tonight (Wednesday June 24th)

A few of us were at sunset in Kits and watched a flaming...thing fall from the sky over the Tantalus range. It was clearly on fire but fell soooo slowly, not like a streaming comet. Sometimes it would develop an orange tail and sometimes it was just a glowing ball.

Anybody have any clues as to what we were seeing? I have a couple (shyte) photos.
