Question about pet regression specifically

I have some friends who are pet regressors I’m worried about upsetting, so I wanted to ask somewhere where it’s less likely to upset anyone: why is it called pet “regression?” Is regression not returning to a past experience? I have no problem with it at all, to be clear, and my question is purely semantics. As an outsider, I’m unsure about it,
