**Did Gladys Berejiklian's political downfall stem solely from integrity concerns?**

Or do major political controversies sometimes become entangled with broader struggles over influence, loyalty, and institutional power?

Part 7 examines competing interpretations surrounding the 2018 Catholic school funding dispute, the resistance reportedly mounted by Gladys Berejiklian and Rob Stokes, the role of Catholic education networks, and the political pressures that followed.

It also considers Berejiklian's reported call to Archbishop Anthony Fisher while he was in Rome, the subsequent ICAC investigation, comparisons with John Barilaro, and questions raised by critics about accountability, influence, and political survival in New South Wales.

📚 Topics discussed include:

• 🔹 The 2018 Catholic school funding dispute
• 🔹 Gladys Berejiklian, Rob Stokes, and opposition to aspects of the funding package
• 🔹 Catholic education lobbying and political advocacy
• 🔹 Berejiklian's reported conversation with Archbishop Anthony Fisher
• 🔹 The ICAC investigation and Berejiklian's resignation
• 🔹 Comparisons with John Barilaro and differing political outcomes
• 🔹 Accountability, influence, and institutional resilience
• 🔹 Whether political leaders face additional risks when challenging well-organised interests

Supporters argue that Berejiklian's resignation demonstrates integrity mechanisms functioning as intended and that her political downfall was ultimately linked to failures of disclosure concerning her relationship with Daryl Maguire.

Critics contend that her experience raises broader questions about how power operates within complex political systems. They ask whether highly organised institutions and influential networks can sometimes isolate political figures who challenge their interests, and whether accountability processes are perceived as being applied consistently.

This chapter presents competing interpretations of events and invites listeners to consider whether Berejiklian's story was primarily about corruption, political vulnerability, or the consequences of defiance.
