Problems working in the heatwave
Looking for advice on how to approach my employer about the work place causing me to hypo several times a day. It’s a heat wave rn in Scotland and it is toasty. The problem is I work in a clean room and it has no ac or fans. I wear a clean room suit gloves mask etc, my job is very hands on I work on machinery often in and around tools fitting parts electrical and mechanical and the clean room I work in is currently 26 degrees C 90% humidity. Iv been on holiday before in 30 degree plus weather and ive been fine. Theres a breeze, a pool I can jump in or a cool ac shop I can go in. In the workplace there is obviously none of that. I have hypod three times in the last couple of days the last hypo I was down at 3 for over an hour and I could do is lie down and eat a bag full of sweeties. These working conditions are flat out dangerous and everyone else doesn’t see the issue. They obviously don’t have type 1 diabetes. I know that this temperature might seem trivial to some people from warm countries but scotlands summer usually has highs of 20 degrees. I wear shorts all year round even when it’s snowing because I run hot. I very much don’t feel safe working. How do I convey this to my manager? Iv spoke to my diabetes team who have given me advice on how to deal with the heatwave but not how to deal with my employer.
