Rann Utsav 2026-27 β€” Everything a first-timer should know before booking

#SoloTravel 🚢

Rann Utsav is on a lot of bucket lists but the information online is often scattered. Here's a clean breakdown for first-timers:

What is it?

A ~100-day cultural festival at the White Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. Held at Dhordo village near Bhuj. Runs from October/November through February.

Highlights:

  • White salt desert stretching to the horizon
  • Full moon nights (the main highlight β€” plan around these!)
  • Folk music & dance every evening
  • Kutchi handicrafts and regional cuisine
  • Adventure: camel rides, ATV, desert cycling, kite festival (Uttarayan in January)
  • Comfortable tent stays or traditional mud house accommodation

How to reach:

  • Fly/train to Bhuj β†’ ~80 km drive to Dhordo
  • Fly/train to Ahmedabad β†’ ~400 km drive (road trip option)

Packages available:

Most operators offer 1N/2D, 2N/3D, and 3N/4D stays. Shop around and compare what's included β€” some cover meals and cultural shows, others don't.

Tips:

  • Book early if you're visiting around full moon dates β€” they fill up fast
  • Carry warm layers, nights in the desert get surprisingly cold
  • Kala Dungar (Black Hill) and Bhujodi village are great add-ons nearby
