Caste Misrepresentation in Matrimonial Alliances: When Claims Don't Match Reality.

Discussion & Debate

So this was about a year back, and it involved someone in my extended family's matrimonial search.

A rishta came through for them—the family seemed decent overall. They presented themselves as Rajput, which mattered for the alliance and My relatives were interested and things were moving forward.

After a few days, when my extended family decided to do their own checking and asked around in community circles discreetly, it turned out the family wasn't Rajput at all. They had completely misrepresented their caste background knowing it wasn't true.

I get that sometimes families have complicated histories—love marriages in previous generations, family splits, unclear background, name changes and all that. That's legitimate. But this wasn't that. They knew they weren't Rajput and claimed it anyway.

It didn't work out after that obviously.

Wanted to see if anyone else has come across something like this in their matrimonial processes or heard about it happening. Is this something that happens often, or was this just an isolated incident?
