I played with my junior racket and now I'm questioning everything
I've really been struggling with my game since I started playing again 2 years back. I bought a new 300g racket (Yonex Percept 100) and I thought that it would help me advance my game. But, honestly, it kinda didn't. While I did improve, I just can't seem to hit consistently. I'm firmly in the recreational/club level.
Today, in our training session, I randomly switched to my 10 year old junior racket (255g) - and I instantly started to play way better. More topspin, safer shots, better serve returns and, to my surprise, I could feel the ball way better when slicing. My mistakes made sense - the connection between how I hit the ball and what the ball then actually does felt way more solid.
When I switched back to my newer racket, it felt sluggish and like it didn't do what I wanted it to. Lost that set 0-6. Super frustrating.
What does that mean? I'd say I'm pretty athletic and generally strong. So I should be able to easily wield the 300g racket. But, in reality, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Should I maybe try a 280g racket? Would that really make a difference between a 300g racket?
