Is freelance web development getting easier or harder these days?

I’ve been seeing mixed opinions about this lately, so I wanted to hear from people actually working in the space.

On one hand, there are way more tools now—AI assistants, no-code builders, faster frameworks—that should make building and delivering websites easier than before.

But at the same time, competition feels higher, clients expect faster turnaround, and pricing pressure seems more intense than it used to be.

From your experience as freelancers :

Is freelance web development actually getting easier because of better tools, or harder because of increased competition and rising client expectations?
