My 25 years of experience made building a startup harder, not easier — i am launching my product in 5 days
Hi everyone, writing my 1st detailed post on the journey i undertook as micro enterprise and founder. My backgroud is in portfolio management where i am leading 30 Mil worth of services in corporate environment.
I thought that my experience would make building a startup easier. However, what i experienced was opposite of it. The more experirnced i aquired made me to elaborate the idea more and risk privy to control all the potential pitfalls i can if my product go hit
Six months ago I started building Amperly — a conversation-first connection platform keeping in mind with immigrants, international students, and expats settling into Australia. The problem statement wsd around the reality that when ou land in a new country with credentials, ambition, and zero local network. Existing platforms don't solve that. They just add noise.
Here's what six months of bootstrapped building actually looks like:
What I got right:
Built on enterprise olatform like aws and goodle with a proper h8ghky secured architecture from day one
Used AI tooling aggressively to compress what would've been an 18-month build into 6
Positioned around a specific underserved community rather than trying to be "LinkedIn but better"
Received the grants from big players that msde my opex cost close to zero to test the product in market.
What humbled me:
Zero users on a waitlist despite a live site tells you something. In my case — a broken form, not broken positioning.
Analytics saved me from a wrong pivot.
Automating Instagram content pipelines sounds sexy. Debugging Meta API token permissions at 11pm is not.
Building alone is fast. Building right is slower than you think even when you know what you're doing.
Finally i am in a space where am shipping beta on July 30.
As of now No VC backing. No co-founder. Just conviction, AWS Activate credits, and a lot of late nights.
If you're a migrant or international student in Australia — I'd love you to try it: amperly.com.au
If you're a founder who's done this before — what's the one thing you wish someone told you before your first beta launch?
Keen to hear guidance, suggestions and any critisim as well that can help me grow my product better and can act as social responsible platform to connect the people who may need it.
