Our puppy doesn't like strokes?
Our 7.5 month old mixed breed (probably whippet and staffy plus other bits) rescue is incredibly affectionate in terms of licking and cuddling, she just wants to lay on us all the time when she's not asking us to play.
However, she doesn't seem to like being stroked 99% of the time, and when she does it's for 5 strokes and that's enough. I'm trying to ask for consent, but she has confusing signals, like earlier I gave her a couple, stopped, and she pawed my hand and made eye contact in a way that meant she wanted something - so I thought she wanted more but she immediately walked off when I tried. I'm honestly not sure if she doesn't like it at all or if she does but signals weirdly and we miss it. Sometimes she clearly walks off, but other times it's things like that which confuse me. Then other times she definitely wants more but doesn't stay after I start again.
She's constantly wanting attention and cosy cuddles, so I'd love to be able to give her some calming strokes too. She's not scared or anything, she just moves away when we start or after a couple strokes.
Has anyone had this before that could give me tips? Maybe I'm a bad stroker, missing signals, or just she doesn't like it at all?
