backpacks and inventory

Does anyone else wish that the backpacks added extra inventory when equipped? I like that there are backpacks, but I hate that they are just decoration.

I know the companions give you extra inventory when they are equipped, but it would still be nice to have functionality with the backpacks, especially since we buy them from scrooge stores.
