How does the guiding lands work?

Im at the point of iceborne where I just unlocked the safi siege and I'm still a little confused about the guiding lands. Like what is the point of doing it if all the monsters that appear in it are also event quests. And the whole leveling up mechanic just doesn't make sense, same with the evidence of a turf war thing.
