Starting Accutane and drug use + mental health
For context on this situation, I live in a place where the healthcare system is pretty poor. I went to the dermatologist because I suddenly over the past month or so began having pretty severe acne on my back, as well as chronic lip pimples (worst thing ever, one would pop up, almost heal then another would start growing directly next to it (literally touching). But basically these have been issues since the beginning of the summer, and I went to a dermatologist and walked out with an accutane prescription within maybe 2 minutes. I also was prescribed this medication to take for two weeks prior which is supposed to minimize if not stop the entire purging process from accutane.
I’ve had acne all my life (honestly was what started my depression and suicidal ideations when it began in 7th grade) but once I became probably 18 or 19 it mostly went away besides some simple scaring and I honestly had no problem with the way my skin was (some might have said otherwise but I think it was a big improvement and was no longer insecure about it). I’m supposed to begin taking the medication on the 30th but I have some serious concerns which for some reason I can’t find any information on.
First off, this kinda seems like a big step considering before the summer started I had barely thought about acne for honestly years at that point (even though it was my biggest insecurity and almost lead me to suicide when I was younger) and the only real reason I would want to get on it is to clear my back up (but if it made my face worse I’d genuenly lose my mind).
Anyway to get to the actual important questions I have. I have had bad mental health kinda my whole life, but right now is the worst. I went through a breakup with the person who I thought I’d spend my entire life with and have gotten “heavily” into drugs. I don’t physically withdrawal from anything, simply because of the substances themselves and the amount I take, but I definitely have significantly depleted dopamine and seratonin. I take research opiates (not full agonist) probably 4-5 times a week, cocaine and ketamine whenever it’s around (which is pretty damn often), Xanax on occasion (still at least once a week minimum) and a reasonable amount of liq, probably 4-5 times a week as well, and I smoke w33d every day (I also have no problem mixing these substances. I’ve been trying to lower my consumption but obviously a lot easier said than done. Basically, I want to know if anyone has taken accutane and what the process was like while having addiction problems and if their use effected the medicine. I want to take the medicine because if I genuenly was capable of being cured completely from my acne permanently it would make me the happiest man in the world , but I also know it doesn’t always work like that and there are potentially awful side effects, especially mental health ones and when I’m already taking each day by day and experiencing pretty severe depression sometimes I don’t know if my body could even handle the stress of everything at the same time, but I also want to becase clear skin would give me the confidence I’ve been missing my whole life. When I brought the substance use up to the doc she said as long as ur not using h3roin or m3th you’ll be fine (exact words) so that’s the only info I have about this but like I said she prescribed me accutane within 2 minutes of meeting me and all the information I have about this medicine is from my countless hours throughout my life trying to find a fix for my skin. Thank you for reading this if you did and please let me know if I should attempt to go through with this while in wha could be considered active addiction. Thank you for your tim
