Why am I matched against player 4 ranks above me in ranked?

I started playing again on my Xbox one yesterday and decided to play ranked to get people my skill level.

1. I get matched against players in platinum

2. I have to close the game entirely just to play again because play again and back to lobby buttons are gray and dont work.
