Is blocking suppose to be that strong ?

I am in my first 10 hours, a bloodfly one shots me most of the time, dealing like 60-70% damage.

When I am blocking without even timing right they deal like 5% damage or something, I can kill 10 after each other with blocking and lose like 20% damage from all those fights when I just block everything.

I mean I just block with a small ass handaxe and get no 5% damage if even that.

Is that suppose to be that strong ?
