Can a Tegu and cats live together?

Hello,

I'm thinking about getting a Tegu, but I am worried about my cats. Depending on the tegu's character and its upbringing of course, is it able to let them roam free in the house together? Or should I always separate them when letting the tegu out of its enclosure? Has anybody made any experiences with this? I know that a bite from a tegu is very nasty, but I also heard they can behave like puppies if they are raised right. So now I wonder if it is a good idea to get a tegu in the first place.
