Need honest career advice from people who’ve been through career pivots
I’m 24M, graduated from NIT Jalandhar (Industrial & Production Engineering) in 2022.
My academics:
10th: 9.4 CGPA
12th: 72.4%
B.Tech: 7.18 CGPA
Category: SC
Work experience:
Started working in Sept 2022 and currently have almost 4 years of experience.
I’ve been working in service-based IT companies (started at Capgemini and recently switched), and my current CTC is 14 LPA.
The problem is that I’m working in a very niche technology, and I feel like the long-term growth and transferability of this skillset is limited. I don’t see a very promising future if I continue on the same path.
Lately I’ve been feeling stuck and confused.
I want to move into something with better long-term growth, stronger brand value, and better optionality — maybe analytics, product, consulting, or strategy.
Right now I’m considering:
-
Preparing for CAT 2026 (or 2027) and targeting FMS/IIMs
-
Preparing for GMAT and targeting ISB
-
Trying to pivot into analytics/business analyst roles first and maybe MBA later
-
Continuing in tech and switching for better pay
My concerns:
- I feel behind when I see peers moving into better companies/packages
- I have family financial responsibilities
- We’re planning to buy a house around 2030, so taking a huge MBA loan feels risky
- I’m scared of making the wrong move and wasting time
What would you do if you were in my position?
