Met a guy on wooplus and honestly had one of the most refreshing dating app experiences I've had in a while.
We matched, hit it off pretty quickly, and chatted for about a week. Nothing crazy, just good conversation, consistent effort, and he was always polite and respectful.
We planned to grab dinner for our first date, but a few hours before, he texted saying he needed to cancel. Normally I'd be rolling my eyes at that point because let's be real, most of us have dealt with people who cancel last minute, give some vague excuse, or just disappear altogether.
But what surprised me was how he handled it. He was super upfront about why he had to cancel, apologized without making excuses, and genuinely seemed to feel bad about it. He immediately suggested next Friday instead, asked what kind of food I'd like, and even said dinner would be on him as a way of making up for the canceled date.
And honestly? It made me like him more, not less.
It's not that he canceled that mattered. Life happens. It's the way he communicated. No ghosting, no breadcrumbing, no leaving me wondering what happened. Just straightforward, respectful communication.
Maybe the bar is in hell these days 😂 but after some of my previous dating app experiences, this felt like such a green flag.
We're still planning to meet next week, so who knows where it'll go, but it was a nice reminder that sometimes people actually do mean what they say.
Anyone else ever have someone gain points after canceling a date because of how they handled it?
