Brand new seven year old Sylvania Silverstar bulbs?
I replaced the Sylvania 9004 bulbs in my vehicle. I ordered off Amazon through the Sylvania store because they were less than half the price compared to the local parts stores (>$50). The old ones being replaced had March 18 printed on the side so I assume that is the month and year they were made.
The brand new ones had May 19 printed on the side.
Two questions:
Am I correct that my brand new bulbs were manufactured in May of 2019?
Am I correct in assuming the age of the bulbs will have little to no impact on the lifespan or performance of the bulbs given that they are still brand new bulbs?
- Shelf-life Reality: As long as the glass envelope is not cracked and the inert fill gas hasn't leaked, time spent sitting in a box does not age them.
- The "Degradation" Process: Halogen bulbs only degrade once they are turned on. Over their typical 400 to 1,000 hours of use, tungsten naturally evaporates from the filament and deposits on the glass, which causes dimming and a yellower light over time
