Should I keep my Honda or get a new car?
Should I repair and keep it or get a new one?
Last year, I bought a 00' Accord ES 2.0i VTEC with over 250k Km (155k miles) for a little under 4k euros. The car's interior is in really good condition. As for the exterior it has some rust spots here and there but nothing too worrisome. Mechanically, it's in pretty good condition overall as a trustworthy mechanic told me.
Even though I probably overpaid for it, I love this car to death. The driving is fun and exciting and looks great.
Now, some time has passed since getting the car and it is in need of some repairs which could cost me between 600-1200€ (catalytic converter and timing belt replacements) and a couple hundred more for a paint job because of the rust.
I really like the car, but these repairs paired with some other minor annoyances (original radio unit is locked and the original owner does not have the code anymore plus no aux, fuel consumption is a bit too high overall and no parking sensor which is not really an issue but facilitates a lot, especially here in Europe where most parking spots are quite narrow), make me want to trade it for something else.
The repair cost being almost half of what I gave for the car is making me doubt if I should keep it or just try to sell it for a reasonable price and with some help get a newer one. I would absolutely keep it if I could, but realistically I don't have money to maintain two cars. If I got rid of this Accord, I would probably go for a high mile 9th gen Accord or Lexus IS.
Any help and opinions are appreciated.
