Why do some people look down on helping their parents at home?

General

Does anyone else get annoyed when people act like helping at home is something weird?

I was talking to my roommates and mentioned that when I'm home, I help my mom with kitchen work because I've seen how hard she works over the years. If I want to try a recipe I saw online, I usually make it myself instead of asking her to do it.

One of my roommates kept talking about how her mom never asks her to do any household work, lets her sleep until late, and makes her fresh breakfast. She also says she hates cooking and never goes into the kitchen. That's completely her choice, and I don't judge her for it.

What bothered me was that whenever the topic came up, she'd make comments like, "Oh, you know all the kitchen stuff, right?" or proudly mention that she never has to do any of that. It felt like helping at home was being treated as something embarrassing or inferior.

I genuinely don't care whether someone enjoys cooking or not. Everyone grows up differently. But why look down on people who choose to help their parents or learn basic life skills? Would this annoy you too, or am I reading too much into it?
