It’s so funny how Republicans grandstand about the SAVE Act, but don’t have citizenship verification requirements in most of their states.

Political

Republicans will say “we need the SAVE Act” to legitimize American elections. Which, if one likes the SAVE Act, that’s very good for them, but most Republican states don’t have proof of citizenship requirements.

There’s essentially only 5 states with active citizenship requirements, including states where it’s law but not implemented yet.

If this act is so important, then why are red states not implementing it more aggressively at the state level? It’s because they don’t actually care.

I can’t tell you if the SAVE Act will pass or not. But I can tell you that conservatives who say they care strongly about it are lying, given that over 4/5 of Republican states don’t have proof of citizenship laws.

And their big threat is “we will consider any of your wins illegitimate if there’s no SAVE Act,” which, ok, go ahead and say that. It doesn’t change anything lol.

Oh also, while they’re at it, they should probably try implementing these “essential” laws in their own states more often so we know they mean it.
