Are collisions where only glass is damaged allowed to be treated as glass claims?
I made a claim recently for my back window, which shattered due to me slowly backing up into an extended metal arm on a trailer behind me. The arm was outside the view of my rear view camera, so I had no idea it was even there.
I made a claim to progressive insurance, and initially it was only a glass claim. Someone called me back to get the details, and everything seemed good, until I told them about a small dent that might affect the adhesion of the window to the door. So they said that we should transfer it to a collision claim in case we needed to get the door fixed. It sounded like it was entirely my choice. I for some reason said sure.
Anyway, I took it to safelite to get a replacement a day later, and they said the small dent was insignificant and wouldn't affect the replacement at all. So I just got a window replacement and the bill came out to be $350. My deductible for glass is $100 and my deductible for collision is $500. So I won't get reimbursed at all if it remains a collision claim. But I'll get reimbursed $250 if it's a glass claim.
I asked the adjuster to transfer it back over to a glass claim because the only thing I was replacing was glass. He asked me to submit photos to the claim and he would get it transferred. I did, and he called me a few days later to tell me that the claim couldn't be transferred because it was part of a collision. Even though I was very clear about it being a collision initially, and the original claims adjuster didn't have a problem with it when it was a glass only claim.
Is there anything I can do here? Are collisions where only glass is damaged not allowed to be reported as glass claims?
