Game Mode question

Maybe a silly question, I'm still learning Bazzite as iv been a CachyOS user for a few years. I ended up downloading the desktop variant, launching into desktop, as i was informed that desktop image had a more up to date Mesa driver. My question is regarding the Game Mode variant. Is it more performant due to being in its own shell and not loading the desktop? Is the command gamemoderun doing the same thing for resources when i launch a game? This is a gaming focused PC that i watch youtube on. Thank you.
