Employees Not Knowledgeable About App Offers

Employees there do NOT know how to handle Sheetz in-app Offerz.

Went today as app offer was if you bought a $25 Amazon gift card, you would get $..40 cents off a gallon.

So, unsure how it's done, I went in and the cashier about it.

"You have to buy a $25 Amazon gift card AND pay for your gas at the same time."

Ok, so I go to their gift card carousel and the only Amazon gift card available was for one that could have a variable value from $10 to $500. I take it and tell the cashier that I want $25 value on it and that I'll get $50 in gas. $75 total. Paid by credit card and she scanned my Sheetz Member ID.

Go out to pump and pump does not show the $.40 cent discount. I go back in and she says that it's above her pay grade and I'll need to speak to the manager. Well that turns out to be an Assistant Manager.

He proceeds to say that I needed to buy an Amazon gift card that exactly said $25, not the one I had purchased with a variable value for which I had made with a $25 value. However, there were NO cards other than the variable value one.

I was given the Customer Service number and called and was on hold for 15 minutes before finally selecting the option for call back.

Someone called back 5 minutes later.

The guy was pleasant and listened (without interrupting -- amazing) and said two mistakes were made:

  1. The gift card and the gas SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN in the same transaction. The gift card should've have been purchased separately so that the system would then activate the $.40 cent discount on the customer's app.
  2. It did not matter that I had bought the variable value Amazon gift card. As long as at least $25 was purchased for the value of the Amazon gift card, the system would then activate the $.40 cent discount.

The guy said that he saw that the $.40 cent discount was activated on my account and that the $50 in gas should be credited back to me since I never actually got the gas.

For compensation, he said he would exchange the $.40 cent discount (which would expire in a week) for two $.25 cent discounts which could be used together and good for a year.

Frustrating, yes. Probably won't go to Sheetz for awhile as Sheesh, this could've been avoided if the employees were better trained on the app's offers and how they work. But will they do that? Nope.
