What do the progressive folks think about consensual open relationships?

Question

Closeted South Asian here. Marriage pressure, a younger brother whose prospects feel somehow tangled in my choices. You already know the movie. Pure suffocation.

Most of my recent deep thinking about identity and theology has happened with an AI at 2am. Which is either a sign of the times or a cry for help, probably both. Anyway Hi!

Alhamdulillah, I'm in a 2 year relationship, both of us very happy and content. Emotionally monogamous, physically open, fully mutual, zero deception. My moral compass runs on honesty, kindness and humility more than any rulebook.

Growing up I was told don't do this or that because Allah will get mad and punish you. That never landed. Not because I dismiss Him, but because reducing Him to reactive anger and punishment feels more like bringing Him down to a human level, which is honestly feels more disrespectful rather than worship/devotion. My understanding is that Allah is so totally beyond human comprehension that things have to be dumbed down just for us to begin grasping the scale. Boundless mercy and absolutely beyond comparison.

What does land for me is whether I'm causing real harm to a real person. I'm not.

So genuinely asking: do open relationships carry stigma here too, just from a different direction? Am I trading one set of raised eyebrows for another?

I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to belong somewhere. Glad this place exists.
