I really hope WIT tones down the cgi before release.

The character animation looks amazing, so this isnt even a criticism of the actual animators. My issue is just with how much of the world feels rendered in 3d. The ships, buildings, crowds, water, environments, EVERYTHING look like a 3d mobile game, and it honestly takes me out of the experience. One Piece always had such a charming hand drawn aesthetic, so replacing so much of that with cgi just feels like an objective downgrade imo.

People always bring up Attack on Titan as proof that WIT can do cgi well (with the exception of the collosal titan scenes,) and i really agree! The cgi environment there blended into the scenes so naturally that u barely even noticed it. Theyd sometimes do 2d n sometimes 3d, but never would they plainly show the 3d map as a highlight. But in this trailer i kept noticing the cgi more than the actual drawing, which is just trash, especially when they just show u a image of the 3d environment as a literal highlight instead of just drawing it. Wtf?

I think the remake would benefit a lot from using more 2d backgrounds and environments, and only using cgi where its actually hidden. One pieces biggest strength has always been its crazy world, and id love to see that world preserved with the original 2d artstyle instead of the lazy 3d mess we have now. The roger sequence at the very least needs to feel like a hand drawn, mythological scene instead of this 3d mess we have now lol.

Is this the fault of Netflix?

Wit piece CGI sucks. (My first impressions of the trailer)
