HE front loader, sons clothing smells like a gerbil cage, what detergent to use?

I have a large capacity LG HE front loader and LG dryer. My 26 yr old son showers every day, twice if he goes to the gym and washes all his worn clothes every weekend. Somehow since he was a reen his clothes smell like a gerbil cage. We currently use arm and hammer oxi clean powdered detergent. I believe he washes on warm water setting. Any suggestions.
