Serious Question: The self is illusory, beneath is substrate consciousness, and beneath that, layer upon layer of subtler phenomena and forms down to formless dharmakaya (beneath and down aren’t the right words)
So when individuals are “reincarnated”, what aspect of a recognizable “self” reappears and why would it have access to the memories of one life but not someone “else’s” given that dharmakaya is at the root of “everyone’s” essential nature
Dharmakaya encompasses both nirvana and samsara but is neither; there is seeing but no seer; it gives form to samsara and the coarse mind but is neither
I’ve heard the reincarnated self as a local knot of karma, a function of unresolved karma reemerging from substrate consciousness by someone who didn’t meditate and confront thought forms in life and so was overwhelmed in the bardo of death
But, for me, I struggle understanding what part of myself is even me to begin with: I see all phenomena of the coarse mind as basically unfolding at the same level of perception. How could the source of those phenomena link to a by then dissolved coarse mind that’s no me “me” than my current one?
Idk idk 🤷♂️
But fascinating
