Can't log into factory reset samsung galaxy s20fe with previously synced Google account

My kid used my old Samsung galaxy s20fe and forgot the screen lock pattern.

The phone was wiped and reset, now it asks to log in with that same pattern.

I select "use my Google account instead" and it wants the Google account that was previously synced with the device.

I enter my Google info correctly, do the two factor successfully when I get a notification on my current phone. I even tried just using my phone number that is linked to my Google account with same result

Then, the old device looks like it's logging in, then goes back to the original log in, asking for the Google account that was previously synced.

I've tried logging in with my kids Google account and it shows my profile as a parent to manage the account. I verify my credentials, then it takes me back to the original login screen again

The device is not in my samsung smart things, nor does it show on my Google account.

The child account was managed through FamilyLink, but the device does not show in there, either.

I'm at a loss
