Why do i need tk book a table for ALL England World cup games?
The first tournament that I was an adult for was 2014, you'd rock up early, 2 hours or so, save a table and drink til long gone after the final whistle.
But i noticed a change around euro 2022, all the decent pubs in my area, Id get there 2 hours before KO. But every single table would be reserved from KO time. So I had to go to less desirable pubs. And when I even started to book, I always seemed to get a shitty seat. Even for one game we were sat outside when it was raining.
This year's world cup, every single pub within a 30 min walk does table booking for all England games. It's all people you never see in that pub normally, so now all thr locals are kicked out. Pubs are losing out on money too. Many people would go hours before KO, to drink, eat and catch up with mates before the game starts. Now the pub is empty until maybe 30 mins before KO. I've even seen pubs charging to book a table! Disgraceful. At first I thought it would be for safety reasons, yet all that happens is people stand round anyway. It's not in the spirt of things what so ever. And pubs wonder why they're dying.
So my question is, why has it changed? How do the pubs benefit? Am I just an old man? (I'm only 30!)
