Car for City Driving

Currently have a 2007 Volvo S40 with just over 23k miles that I haven’t had any issues with other than it being horrible during the winter (not AWD). I live in a big walkable city and don’t put many miles on my car. It’s time for a new car that can plow through snow, is reliable and will last. I prefer a compact sedan but am open to all suggestions. Lexus has been recommended but I know nothing about cars. I plan to buy new unless I found a great CPO. Thank you!
