Can a fresh daith piercing "close up" in 45 seconds?

My teenager got a daith piercing today at a reputable shop, and it turned into a shitshow. She just called me on FaceTime sobbing minutes after the procedure, which is highly unusual for her. Piercer checked anatomy first and said she was good to go. She pierced her with what my kid thinks is a 16g needle, but maybe 18g. Literally 45 seconds later, when piercer tried to insert a thin fixed-bead hoop, she could not get the jewelry through. She told my husband the hole had “closed up” because young ears are "elastic."

She then spent about 15 minutes forcefully trying to insert the hoop from the top down, and my kid, who is a really tough cookie, was sobbing from the pain. Husband intervened to say daughter needed a break. Daughter refused to not complete the jewelry transfer but was in excruciating pain. Eventually the jewelry went in, but the piercer charged us half price and said this had never happened to her before. When I asked my kid if piercer had called any fellow piercers over to have a look, she said that hadn't happened.

Sorry to sound like a dumbass, but can a fresh daith piercing actually close up in under a minute? Is it possible the piercing didn't go all the way through? What was she trying to jam the jewelry into when she was trying to get it in "from the top hole." This shop was specifically chosen because it has very high standards for its artists and piercers and takes safety incredibly seriously, so I'm confused about what happened. Should we have another reputable piercer check the placement and make sure it looks okay?
