Plug-In Ultrasonic Repeller Devices (Mice, rats)

I have heard that ultrasonic plug-in repeller devices don't work for mice and rats.

But I also see a lot of 5-star or 4-star reviews for these things on Amazon, and a part of me also wonders if it's just exterminators fearful of losing their livelihoods who are being so dismissive.

Are the reviews fake, and/or the exterminators being truthful?

If anyone has a product recommendation...or a very compelling argument about why they don't work...I am all ears. [Human ears, not mouse ears]. Thanks.
