Hey! I wanted to post here my concept for the contest Design A Sprite!

I submitted my design via Twitter already but I also wanted to post it here to give more details, show it to more people and also just in case I get shadowbanned on twitter in the meantime (we never know 🫣). I just had to wait until my account was 7 days old to post though.
For my original entry, see here: [https://x.com/midaswaifu/status/2067426733771358412?s=61](https://x.com/midaswaifu/status/2067426733771358412?s=61)

Back to the concept!

It’s a Midas Sprite, as you may have guessed. I called him the 24k Sprite.

It gives you the “Gold Rush” effect, just like the Gold Splash used to do (introduced in chapter 6 season 2):
It increases your speed (without going faster than the seven sliders), which is nice since the season is called runner, and we know movement is key in BR (especially Zero Build).
Makes your pickaxe go faster AND deals more damage against structures (not against players since another Sprite already does this and this would make it too OP anyway) but the damage against structure is definitely a plus in build mode.

And since it’s a Midas sprite and it’s the 24k sprite, it had to give you gold. So each time he levels up, he drops 250 gold. It felt like a good amount (not too much, not too little) considering the costs of things like hiring an NPC, buying a reboot card or even buying from the vending machines. And the Midas touch also work as a cosmetic, since the sprite progressively gets more and more golden as it gains levels, becoming fully gold once mastered (level 5)!

For the design inspiration (see the second picture), I based myself on the original sprites design (back in chapter 6, the first water and air ones). I gave him a greyish look just like Midas’ skin who’s pale with a grey tint and he also has golden hands (paws?) and of course some of Midas’ signature tattoos. For the tattoos part, I was inspired by the fact that a lot of official Midas merch features his tattoos as a background/key signature. The 24k Sprite also has the GHOST logo on his chest just like some sprites have their elements on their chest too. It seemed even more fitting since Midas also has the GHOST logo tattooed.

No, he’s not naked. I’ve had this comment a few times (I even made a version with a tie, see?), It’s just that I based myself on the first sprites when I designed him and they don’t wear clothes. (I know the Punk one does for example, but it’s fitting with his look, whereas with my Midas sprite, I wanted the focus more on the golden touch and the tattoos).
The Midas flopper also doesn’t wear clothes and he was part of my inspiration process on ‘how to make this but in a Midas version’.

One golden eye, the other white with a scar, obviously. And I added his famous haircut too. On the first version (that you can see on the third picture), he didn’t have hair. It’s once again because I first based myself off the OG sprites… But it felt more right in the end to give him hair (I realized it once I made a first 3D model prototype). This one sprite is a fancy little guy who goes to the hairdresser!

My first design is from before this season started, I thought of him as soon as I’ve heard the teasing of a contest, and drew him as fast as I could! I did a 3D model for the first version and also did one for the final version that I’m submitting to this contest. It was important to me to try and make a 3D version of my design, even if it’s not the ‘final’ version. I’ve learn 3D by myself, thanks to Fortnite and especially Midas who was and still is my main inspiration when it comes to creating art (whether it be 3D, drawing or even customizing things).

Fortnite just has that thing that makes me love this universe so much. From the cartoon-y colorful style, to the super cool lore, to the constant evolution of the environment and gameplay. And of course to the amazing original characters that they created. Especially Midas. He has become one of my favorite character of all time.

The fact that they took a mythological character, but made him modern, with the brilliant idea of a spy theme is simply genius! Everything about Midas is great, from his look to his story within the fortnite lore and all of his reskins/snapshots are amazing too!

I really love this character so much. And I love Fortnite, a lot. (You can tell it by the money and hours I’ve spent on this game compared to any other game) and it would mean a lot to me that something that I created make it into this universe that I hold dear to my heart. ❤️

Thanks a lot for taking the time to read me, I apologize if there are any grammatical mistakes, English isn’t my first language.

I’ll be back to leveling up my new Sprites in the meantime, see you, Runners. 🫡
