Grandpa's accountability story

Reading recent comments about GWOT DFAC shenanigans reminded me of a story set in that era. The tale belongs to a friend who doesn't reddit, but I'll let him know I put it online.

2004, Iraq. A close friend in my company needed his wisdom teeth pulled and caught a rotary flight to BIAP. He arrived, was assigned temporary housing, and went to the dentist the next morning.

The dentist did their thing, gave him some pills, and told him to go sleep off the drugs. He walked back to his CHU. On the way, he stopped to pee in a random porta-john.

He woke up hours later, dazed, in pain, dick out, drenched in sweat, and unable to feel his right arm, which was blue.

Piecing the narrative together after the fact, he apparently passed out while using the urinal. As he dropped, his arm draped into the open maw of the bowl opening, submerging in the waste tank and cutting off circulation at the shoulder. He remained that way until the local anesthesia wore off and the pain woke him up.

He stumbled back to his transient lodging, showered, and didn't tell anyone anything about this for months. He was worried we would make fun of him. Valid concern, my man. It's been over 20 years, and it's still funny.

I don't have an order. Move over so I can make my midnight chow panini with mayo, onions, and all the deli meat.
