Changing union and/or a-kassa memberships

Hej everyone,

I am in the process of switching not just to new more demanding role but also switching work environment / branch alltogether. After almost three years of struggling to find a job I finally landed a role in a small private company that deals with finance.

Since moving to Sweden I´ve been working in service (bars and restaurants) and according to that I´m also member of corresponding union (Hotel och restaurang facket) and have been paying their a-kassa HRAK.

At the moment there are few questions that go through my head:

- As I am moving to a "white collar" job I wonder should I change my facket membership and/or a-kassa? Would my future interest and possible issues be better represented by, let´s say Unionen?

- Does it matter which a-kassa I pay for att all? If I have been paying two separate a-kassor my guess is they still combine in case I lose the job in the future?

- If I am to change unions should I start the process right now, wait till my new roll kicks in or even wait till i clear provanställning?

Has anyone had any similar experiences and would offer some advice?

Btw I am aware some of these questions could be given directly to unions, but my guess is each of them will be biased and try to make me to swing membership. :)
