Dying Father and Will/ Power of Attorney
I’ll try summarise as brief as possible
Father lives in Townsville, I live in Brisbane. I am disabled after a serious workplace accident resulting in injury, preventing me from flying or driving long distances.
My father recently got in contact with me after about 2 years of no contact, resulting from a dispute back then. He recently reached out to me, telling me he is terminally ill and has months to live. I am not in contact with him, everyday, all forgiven.
He lived near me before dispute, but after his wife passed away, my brother moved him up near them as a result of him finding out he has months to live. I was not told this at all, and only found out months after once he was transported up there. He lives in an aged care facility right now.
Brothers wife has been appointed power of attorney as brother works away for large period of time. She has not told me what is in the will or current state of will. Father’s home was sold when he moved up there, still don’t know anything and only found out upon looking up address of home on google.
My father is losing the will to live and also is unsure of the current state of the will due to brother’s wife and not ultimately caring due to wanting to die already. He wants to be transported down near me to be where he has lived his whole life but brother’s wife placed him in aged care facility up there.
I am trying to organise a pro bono lawyer to at least speak to him to at least ask him and ensure his current state of legal affairs has been properly looked after. I’ve been told he has to facility this himself by calling on his own behalf. He has no will to do this as he can hardly get out of bed and does not have access to a mobile phone, only the aged care facility’s phone.
What do I do from here?
