What is the interaction between friendship and comfort/environment level?

So, I can't really confirm this so I hope someone here can:

Does your friendship with pokémon affect the environment level? Because I FEEL like I have seen the environment/comfort level go up after having an interaction with a pokémon that had nothing to do with upgrading their habitat. But I am not 100% sure about this.

If I had a save with 20 pokémon in an area, one with zero friendship, the other one's friendship maxed out, would their enviroment levels be any different?
