Reducing water hammer by installing Methven mixer taps
So we have some water hammer at our house in both the hot and cold pipes. It's not pipe-damaging but it's loud enough to be heard in the main bedroom, so we've decided to fix it.
We've figured out that the loudest bangs are generated by two cheap mixer taps in the kitchen and the bathroom (which we want to replace anyway). Our plumber told us to replace them with Methven taps, which have a heavier cartridge that makes them harder (slower) to close, reducing water hammer. We've tried these out at Bunnings and he's right, the taps do close slower, which will probably help, as our current mixer taps close way too quickly.
However Methven is bloody expensive; there are a bunch of other taps that also do similar, and are a lot cheaper. We're wondering if there are any other brands that can also reduce water hammer at a lower cost. Anybody have experience with this?
Thanks!
