Rising First Grader - Math Slightly Gifted?
I have a rising first grader who’s very into math and for fun I’ve taught him a little at home. They can do long multiplication with ease (can explain the algorithm and the logic behind it), and long division (almost). They’re starting to understand well fractions, including common denominators, and manipulating them. Kiddo loves logical puzzles and math games, understands square numbers, decimals, infinity, negative numbers, angles, area, perimeter. Can do 4/5th grade Spectrum workbooks and asks to do them. They are also exceeding grade level in reading and writing but to a lesser extent. Now, I’m scared kiddo will be extremely bored at school. I don’t know how and should I continue teaching them but we both enjoy our math sessions. I don’t want to teach them incorrectly or strategies that aren’t taught the same way nowadays. What should I do to keep learning fun and explore this interest without going too far ahead. Would you consider this a gifted student? Thank you!
