Honest Deck

if you can call that dancing,
you can call it magic.
an heirloom on the fringe,
like the ghost living in my hall closet.
but it gets to a point
he belongs to everyone else.
so when time comes
to renew your alibi,
bring a bottle and ask him yourself.
i spent six nights in the backseat
after spending the first in the trunk,
and just whose luck is it
that i’m here to score for
the both of us.

violently, graciously weak
where it counts.
give me hell when
i let you down.
no room for squares;
pawn the records, save the needle.
i’ll show you how how calmly
an honest deck can shuffle
without ever touching ground,
and make you a true believer.
