Before the Ariya my Tesla Model 3 was our road trip car, but I sold the Tesla for a non-EV Lexus, and my wife bought the Aria when Nissan offered 0% financing. We've camped IN the car, camped WITH the car, and now visited, hiked, and camped in a bunch of different state and national parks between Spokane and Northern Arizona. Pulling in to the driveway yesterday it had recently rolled over 20k miles in just over a year, and there's absolutely nothing to complain about other than I miss that 350kw fast charge from the Tesla, but barely.

Honestly I wasn't sure how we were going to figure out the charging from Spokane to Yellowstone, Tetons, Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon, but it turns out Rivian and Tesla compatibility kind of filled in a lot of gaps that Electrify America and Chargepoint leave in the middle of nowhere. The only slow charger we encountered on the trip was a Chargepoint in Afton, Wyoming that took about 2 hours to get us to 80% from 26%, but it's walking distance from downtown and food so that wasn't that big of a deal.

In my Tesla the charging was faster for sure, but my range in the 75-80mph areas was absolutely laughable, the Ariya is the Evolve+ and averaged about 3.6-4.5kwh/mile over the stretch, where my Tesla AWD model 3 averaged about 2.7-3.5kwh/mile, and you made up for the loss in range efficiently with more generous and faster charging options, but more noticably the Tesla was WAY louder inside the cab, and less comfortable making 4-5 hour days on the road a mind numbing drone.

All in all, I'd rather road trip the Ariya.

Washington to Phoenixroad trip, way better experience than my Tesla
