Does the complete disconnect between Powerplay 2.0 and the BGS break immersion for anyone else?
Hey CMDRs,
I’m currently pledged to Zemina Torval (Empire) and ran into a situation that completely broke my immersion. I wanted to see if anyone else feels the same way—or if I’ve just misunderstood how this is supposed to feel.
I recently flew into a system that is firmly under Zemina Torval’s control according to the Powerplay 2.0 map. However, when I dropped into the local starports, every single minor faction running the stations was Federation-aligned. Even stranger, because of some previous local work I had done for those specific groups, my bottom-left HUD actively displayed me as "Allied" to them.
Mechanically, I now understand why this happens: Powerplay 2.0 and the Background Simulation (BGS) run on entirely separate tracks. Torval's fleets technically "occupy" the system's space lanes, but the actual boots on the ground and station dockworkers are still part of the local Federation structure.
But from a lore and roleplay perspective, it feels incredibly jarring. I’m flying as a dedicated Imperial agent in a system supposedly captured by my Power, yet I’m pulling into a starport draped in Federation flags where my HUD proudly proclaims I am "Allied" with the local Feds.
Does this parallel-universe design break the game's immersion for anyone else? How do you roleplay or justify this disconnect in your head? Or do you think decoupling the two systems was just a necessary evil for the health of player groups?
Fly safe, CMDRs.
