How to determine whether an organic reaction is kinetically governed or thermodynamically governed ?

Organic

I havent learnt kinetics properly yet. But right now I have started organic chemistry. How do I determine whether the reaction is kinetically governed or thermodynamically governed. For example in flourination of alkanes it is kinetically governed since most stable alkyl halide is not the product whereas bromination is thermodynamically governed since it produces the most stable haloalkane. How do I determine this for substitution and elimination reaction.

Thanks in advance!
