Minoxidil routine
As I’ve been very anxious and paranoid about applying minoxidil correctly, I would like to ask some questions.
I started using topical minoxidil with caffeine about a week ago prescribed by a dermatologist. The doctor was somewhat helpful in describing how to apply it and possible side effects. However, I had to ask her multiple times what kind of precautions I should take since I have a dog. She said she has never heard of minox being toxic to dogs (she then looked it up and of course found out that it is indeed true).
For this reason, I’m still worried if she has explained everything correctly which is why I’m seeking some clarification on here.
I apply minoxidil once a day, in the evening. I do one pump of the foam (as that’s what I’ve been told to do in the pharmacy) and do my best to apply it to the scalp at the crown and temples. Then I try to massage it in a bit. I usually wait for about 30 mins and then I wear a bonnet to bed.
I’ve noticed that I’m becoming EXTREMELY paranoid about where the medication gets while I’m sleeping causing me to wake up all the time. I’m worried it will get in my ears or cheeks. The thing is, I do wear a bonnet at night but sometimes I lay on the bed during the day and then I’m extremely worried minoxidil getting on the pillow and then will rub of later at night on my body. Could someone assure me that this is not how it works or should I be changing the pillow case more?
My hair loss is caused by PCOS but since I have curly hair, the balding spots can be hidden quite well. I will be going back on birth control since I started loosing hair after stopping half a year ago. In general I feel very lost and not supported enough by the medical system (even though I had a thorough conversation with both my dermatologist and gynaecologist) - somehow it still didn’t feel like enough and I still don’t know exactly how to deal with this.
