Why are so many US conservatives that easily baited into false foreign discourses?
sorry in advance, English isn‘t my native language; i do hope though, that i can articulate my arguments sufficently.
Recently Uwe Boll‘s new movie made headlines in conservative US media, especially in Forums like reddit. A persistent claim goeas as follows: Boll‘s new Movie „citizien vigilante“ got supposedly banned in Germany, because it is critical of the european migration crisis, migrant crime and soft on migrant crime gouvernment agencies.
This however is not true. In reality, Germanys FSK (in essence Germanys fsrb rating company) refused to give a rating for jouvenile consumption, essentially just saying that this movie should only be watched by mature audiences and cannot be sold to children. Notable examples of this rating include „ Dirty Harry“ with Clint Eastwood.
In this case, among many issues with the movie, the FSK mainly based their decision on the explicit rape scenes within the movie; sonething i whole heartedly agree with; Children should not see something like that.
I‘ve seen multiple examples of people using this as an example for german cencorship and lack of press freedom (ignoring the fact that Germany and most European countries regularly rank better than the US in such metrics, like the press freedom index), a lack on states’ and medias’ initiative on migrant crime and a pro (criminal) migrant propaganda move.
Even Elon Musk got himself involved and very publicly started streaming the movie on his platform X.
My Question is:
I regularly see US conservatives take part in such false and tbh bad faith discourse about foreign topics.
Why are so many US conservatives that easily baited into false foreign discourses?
What might be the goals of people instigating this, since most of these discussions happen within US media or social media echo chambers, with little to none contact or inclusion of people from these foreign countries that would be actually affected by this.
