The Mcjuggernuggets drama makes no sense to me

For those out of the loop, this OG youtuber made an announcement that he and his wife were having an abortion after learning their soon to be chil would be born with down syndrome. The backlash has been brutal with people calling him and his family evil and demented. I am confused though because I woul have assumed most folks watching his type of videos were left wing so is abortion less of a political argument that I thought or is it because of the reason?
